Working in the wedding industry as an event rental business, I am constantly looking out for the latest trends as each season approaches. For me personally, spring and fall are probably my two favorite seasons – with fall being my absolute favorite time of year, hands-down. I wanted to round up some of the fall wedding trends I’m seeing this year and hope to encourage you, if you are still in the planning stages of your wedding, to add a few of these details to your big day.
Fall Wedding Color Trends
Burgundy & Plums. Hands down. These two colors have been oozing from the online wedding blogs and I absolutely love all of the inspiration I am seeing. They both pair beautifully with creamy pinks, mauves and greenery.
Don’t forget your metallics!! Copper is another huge fall wedding color trend right now.
Fall Wedding Cake Trends
Leave the cake toppers at home and make your cake truly shine by keeping it simple. Naked cakes are seeing a new veil draped over them. They’re called translucent cakes. It’s where frosting is thinly layered allowing some of the cake to peep through. Adorn these beautifully simple cakes with some florals and let the cake really shine. Still want some pizazz? Drizzle some ganache, caramel or fruit over the sides.Photo by Matt Allen Photography // Cake by Amuse Bake Shop
And don’t think it’s all about the cake. The cake size is trending down and the other dessert option instead of just cake is trending up. A trendy offering: pie!
Fall Wedding Stationary Trends
Scripty, handwritten fonts displayed via large signage boards and adorned with greenery is in full demand for fall. Think about displaying a ceremony program, seating charts or welcome sign for your guests instead of a paper suite of products.
Fall Wedding Fashion Trends
It’s time to bring the cozy into your bridal gown. Long sleeves and two-piece separates are making their fashion statement this fall. Think about adding some layers and maybe even some gorgeous lace! And don’t forget about the Reception party outfit!! Slip into something more dance friendly and party the night away!

Fall Wedding Flower Trends
The organic (think freshly picked & wild-child) flower arrangements are still holding strong this fall. Lots of loose greenery spilling out of bouquets in a whimsical fashion. Pops of color with the addition of berries and wild-flowers foraged from a field truly are bringing the outdoors in.

Fall Wedding Food Trends
Really make your wedding reception one to remember with custom food stations! Bring in a s’mores bar, hot cocoa bar or craft brew beer bar. Or bring the fiesta to your guests with a build your own taco bar!
Fall Wedding Reception Trends
This one is by far my favorite because it’s what I provide for my brides – reception and ceremony decor! Really utilize the space in your reception. If you can’t expand the space – expand your decor up towards the ceiling or sky. Think tall candles, bringing in trees, setting up a super comfy lounge (or 2) for your guests to relax and enjoy the party. And don’t forget the candlelight. Add it everywhere!! Love the color palette and it’s good to know what’s on the horizon.
