Y’all want to know a little secret?? If I could live in a cotton t-shirt and jeans, year round, I totally would. I would still get to dress up said cotton t-shirt and jeans with heels or boots or whatever my heart desired since you can either dress that up or dress it down just with shoes and accessories. But for real…I would totally live in a combination of that ensemble every day, if I could get away with it. I’d still be able to play dress up but I’m most comfortable in comfy clothes.
Now, don’t get me wrong. I absolutely love to shop and share the fashion finds that I score. I’m a bargain shopper through and through but I also love to splurge on key pieces that I know will last forever, too. My mission with my outfits on PHPT is to show you how to style a key piece. And hopefully it inspires you to wear that key piece a different way than you normally would.
Today’s key piece is a cotton chambray shirt. This is a staple piece to have in your closet. It works all year long and can be dressed up and down. In this outfit, I’m showing you a casual look with shorts, Chuck T’s and a brightly colored cotton t-shirt.
When hunting for some new summer pieces recently, I discovered this chambray shirt at Target. And the biggest discovery for me was the fact that it was 100% made out of cotton. I always assumed chambray was denim (and yes, I know denim isn’t necessarily a fiber…something has to make denim…most of the time it’s cotton but sometimes it’s made of other things too) but I had no clue the entire shirt was fully cotton. So cool!
Cotton really is such a versatile fabric choice in fashion. Again, it’s one of my go-to fabric choices in the warmer months because it’s a breathable fabric. And it’s light-weight!! The versatility, y’all!! You really can’t go wrong.
Want to add more cotton fashion pieces to your wardrobe?? The good thing, it’s not brand specific! You can shop practically anywhere and find clothing pieces made out of cotton. I’m sure you have several cotton pieces in your wardrobe right now! AND
I bet you will find several of your items are not just t-shirts and jeans!
When shopping for new fashion staples, look for cotton-rich fabrics containing at least 60% cotton. You’ll find denim, dress shirts, dresses, skirts…you name it and I’ll bet you’ll find that cotton is all around you once you start hunting for it. When I started going through my own closet, I was pleasantly surprised at what I already owned. I must have been secretly attracted to cotton pieces all along. 😉
This summer, Cotton Incorporated is releasing a new music video on how you can truly enjoy your summer months without foregoing some of those unpleasant summertime experiences (i.e. sweat-stains anyone??!!). Take a peek at the video below and start off your summer by choosing to stay #coolerincotton.
