Here are my answers…
1. What are you reading right now? Tell us about it.
I’m currently reading 2 books (are you surprised?? lol).
The Coincidence of Coconut Cake by Amy E. Reichert Goodreads.com Synopsis:
YOU’VE GOT MAIL meets HOW TO EAT A CUPCAKE in this delightful novel about a talented chef and the food critic who brings down her restaurant—whose chance meeting turns into a delectable romance of mistaken identities.
In downtown Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Lou works tirelessly to build her beloved yet struggling French restaurant, Luella’s, into a success. She cheerfully balances her demanding business and even more demanding fiancé…until the morning she discovers him in the buff—with an intern.
Witty yet gruff British transplant Al is keeping himself employed and entertained by writing scathing reviews of local restaurants in the Milwaukee newspaper under a pseudonym. When an anonymous tip sends him to Luella’s, little does he know he’s arrived on the worst day of the chef’s life. The review practically writes itself: underdone fish, scorched sauce, distracted service—he unleashes his worst.
The day that Al’s mean-spirited review of Luella’s runs, the two cross paths in a pub: Lou drowning her sorrows, and Al celebrating his latest publication. As they chat, Al playfully challenges Lou to show him the best of Milwaukee and she’s game—but only if they never discuss work, which Al readily agrees to. As they explore the city’s local delicacies and their mutual attraction, Lou’s restaurant faces closure, while Al’s column gains popularity. It’s only a matter of time before the two fall in love…but when the truth comes out, can Lou overlook the past to chase her future?
Set in the lovely, quirky heart of Wisconsin, THE COINCIDENCE OF COCONUT CAKE is a charming love story of misunderstandings, mistaken identity, and the power of food to bring two people together.
My Take So Far: I’m loving this book. I was hooked by the cover art. I was hooked in the first chapter. And I’m excited to see where this book takes me.
Siding with Plato by Michelle Manning Goodreads.com Synopsis:
Brooke Aarons can’t get to college fast enough. Leaving behind her small town life, she intends to transform herself into a brilliant psychologist with no distractions along the way. But when she finds herself on a double date with the school’s star football player – and worse, enjoying it – Brooke has to wonder if she’s the one who needs her head examined. James Cartwright’s easy life, endless bucks, and long line of willing girls should make him a non-starter for Brooke, but as she learns, the psychology behind a bad crush is a whole lot messier of a subject. Maybe Plato was right. Maybe love is a serious mental disease. If so, Brooke doesn’t have long to find a cure before James’s attention proves to be a terminal condition.
My Take So Far: I’m kind of meh on this one so far. I hope there’s some more depth soon. It may just be because I’m 16 years removed from being a Freshman in college. Time will tell how this will play out.
2. What book reminds you of summertime as a kid?
I have a horrible memory. So I’m struggling to answer this one. I guess my Babysitter Club books and Nancy Drew. Those I would devour any chance I could so I know I was reading them during the summer time.
3. What book did you have on your summer reading list that truly nailed it as a summer reading favorite?
I put together a Must Read Books for Summer and of the ones I’ve read so far, which truthfully haven’t been very many…I’m really behind on my reading at the moment, anyways the ones I’ve read so far have nailed it.
Blueprints by Barbara Delinsky is one. Check out my review here. And so far The Coincidence of Coconut Cake is nailing it. I put 15 books on that list and I’m only on book 2 of it.
4. Who is your favorite author and why? Give us your top recommendation by them.
Mary Kay Andrews. The book that sold me on her writing was The Fixer Upper. I’ve read everything she has written except for her latest release this summer, which is on my list!
Goodreads.com Synopsis:
The delightful New York Times bestselling author returns with a hilarious novel about one woman’s quest to redo an old house . . . and her life.
After her boss in a high-powered Washington public relations firm is caught in a political scandal, fledgling lobbyist Dempsey Jo Killebrew is left almost broke, unemployed, and homeless. Out of options, she reluctantly accepts her father’s offer to help refurbish Birdsong, the old family place he recently inherited in Guthrie, Georgia. All it will take, he tells her, is a little paint and some TLC to turn the fading Victorian mansion into a real-estate cash cow.
But, oh, is Dempsey in for a surprise when she arrives in Guthrie. “Bird Droppings” would more aptly describe the moldering Pepto Bismol–pink dump with duct-taped windows and a driveway full of junk. There’s also a murderously grumpy old lady, one of Dempsey’s distant relations, who has claimed squatter’s rights and isn’t moving out. Ever.
Furthermore, everyone in Guthrie seems to know Dempsey’s business, from a smooth-talking real-estate agent to a cute lawyer who owns the local newspaper. It wouldn’t be so bad if it weren’t for the pesky FBI agents who show up on Dempsey’s doorstep, hoping to pry information about her ex-boss from her.
All Dempsey can do is roll up her sleeves and get to work. And before long, what started as a job of necessity somehow becomes a labor of love and, ultimately, a journey that takes her to a place she never expected—back home again.
5. Fall Book Reading lists are starting to make their appearances. What are you excited to read that’s being released this fall?
Is it sad that I haven’t even started paying attention to fall reads yet?? I plan on it but I’ve got so many that I want to read right now. And well, I can typically read 2 books at a time…one on my kindle and one in physical form, I don’t think I can read much faster. LOL
Okay, now it’s your turn!
