I love Mason Jars. I love using them as glassware. I love using them as decor. I just love love love them. So I decided to create some hanging lanterns using Mason Jars. These are super easy to make and are cheap! I spent less than $40 and ended up with 12 Hanging Lanterns.
Here’s what you’ll need:
A case of Mason Jars (I used the Pint Sized ones)
Frosted Glass Spray Paint
Diamond Glitter Spray Paint (optional)
Rubber Bands
LED Electronic Tea Lights
Jute
Hot Glue Gun
Directions:
On a few of my jars, I added some rubber bands so that I would have some detail other than just the frosted glass effect.
I spray painted all my Mason Jars with the Frosted Glass Spray Paint.
I spray painted half of my Mason Jars with the Diamond Glitter Spray Paint (after the frosted glass was dry).
After all the paint has dried, pull the rubber bands off.
Next, I tied a small piece of jute around the lip of the mason jar, fairly loosely.
I then took a longer piece (aka the hanger piece) and tied one side to the loosely tied “lip” string and then tied the other side to the lip side. I then finished tying off the “lip” piece.
I used my hot glue gun to “glue” the knots to keep them from unraveling.
I then placed a tea light in each one and hung them from the trees. I chose to put the lids back on the jars to help keep the bugs and water out.

What a great idea! This is too cute. I guess you have to get out the tall ladder and leave handy to change out the tealights and hang from the brances. Fun!

I love this! I’m a jar-lover too, and am always on the lookout for new ways to use them. This is a super fun and cute way to enjoy them, and I love the nice soft light! It’s a perfect solution to the problems I’ve had with the dogs pulling up the LED garden stakes! Now if the cats will leave these alone…
Thanks for sharing at Wake Up Wednesday! Pinning, tweeting, and sharing on my FB page today.

They look so pretty, and by popping the lids back on and using fake candles you are saving having to keep bringing them in – very practical.
