I have loved the look of bunting since I first saw it on Pinterest years ago and have wanted to incorporate them into my home. A while ago, I discovered that Michael’s carried chalkboard paper; and even better, they had it pre-cut in bunting! Today I’m sharing a super easy summer bunting featuring these awesome items.
The pack had 24 pieces so you definitely could make multiple items or a really long one (plus since they are chalkboard, they are reusable). I used 8 flags for this bunting project so that I could have a sunshine on each end of the letters. The Chalk Ink markers are my favorite for chalkboard items, they give nice vibrant colors onto the chalkboard paper but can still be fixed with a damp paper towel. A couple of the letters took me a few tries because they weren’t turning out even.
Once each flag is complete, simply thread them onto some bakers twine (and leave plenty of extra on each end). Bakers twine is perfect for hanging bunting because it is thin enough to go through the holes; yet strong enough to actually hold the bunting up.
For my SUMMER bunting banner, I put it on the deck between our Meyer Lemon and Orange tree. I always decorate the inside of the house and the front porch so I decided it was time that the back deck gets a little more festive. We spend a lot of time on the deck in the summer so it is fun to have a little bit of summer decor out there now.
We have definitely hit summer here in Seattle so the bunting fits in perfectly (normally we joke that Summer doesn’t start until July 5th, but I think this year it started in May!). Next time we have a party, I can switch out the words to fit the theme, maybe “Lemonade”, “Sunshine”, or “Ice Cream”.
What words would you use for your chalkboard bunting?

That’s so cute! This bunting just screams summer to me 🙂 I mean, what’s more summery than drawing on the sidewalk with chalk on a perfect day!?
Good job 🙂
