Let’s talk about Paula’s Choice for a bit, shall we? We shall. I recently had the opportunity to try out the Resist Essential Kit for Wrinkles + Breakouts. I’m getting older, y’all. And wrinkles are a concern for me. Acne isn’t really a huge concern, but I have a super oily T-zone and occasionally I’ll get a few breakouts. I love skincare systems that have multiple steps. Is that weird? I like having a cleanser and a toner and a moisturizer. Plus I like having products that help fight wrinkles. So, I was excited to try out this Paula’s Choice skincare system.
To help me figure out what would be best for my skin, I had a skin consultation with Moniqua, a Paula’s Choice representative. After discussing my skincare needs, she suggested the Resist Essential Kit for Wrinkles + Breakouts plus the Resist Moisture Renewal Oil Booster and the Resist 1% Retinol Booster.
As soon as I received my kit in the mail, I was excited to get started. I loved that the kit came with stickers that I could affix onto my products to help me remember when to use which product. That’s so helpful! Because holy cow…so many things. But I was ready to treat my skin to some amazing products.
Step 1: My routine starts with my Resist Perfectly Balanced Cleanser. I clean my face using luke-warm water and then pat it dry.
Step 2: Resist Weightless Advanced Repairing Toner. I apply this all over my face using a cotton ball.
Step 3: After the toner, I use the day-time exfoliator. I apply the Resist Daily Pore-Refining Treatment With 2% BHA (exfoliator) with another cotton ball.
Step 4: Next is the serum. The Resist Ultra-Light Super Antioxidant Concentrate Serum has lots of good stuff in it…Vitamin C & niacinamide promote firmer skin & fewer wrinkles, Potent antioxidants overturn free-radical damage & Soothing anti-irritants reduce inflammation & help repair sun damage.
Step 5: After the serum, it’s time for the moisturizer that includes a 50 SPF. It’s called the Resist Youth-Extending Daily Fluid SPF 50.
Step 6: Time for a Retinol boost with the Resist 1% Retinol Booster
So, I’ve been utilizing the above skincare system for several weeks and this past week I started to notice a burning sensation in my face. I knew something wasn’t right but I didn’t know what step it started in. I waited to make a phone call back to Paula’s Choice until I had an answer. The next morning, I paid close attention to where the burning started. I noticed it right after I used the toner. Which I was actually really surprised at. That’s Step 2 and I was for sure it was going to happen after the Exfoliator at Step 3. I decided a phone call was in order to figure out what I should do. I spoke to one of the Paula’s Choice reps regarding my experience and she suggested I stop the full system and try just the cleanser and the SPF moisturizer. Her thoughts were that I was having a reaction to the Retinol Booster. She also recommended I add a few drops of the Oil Booster to the SPF moisturizer.
So, I stopped the full system and did exactly as she said. The next morning, I noticed the burning sensation right after the cleanser. Boo to that! I made another phone call and they’ve decided I need to exchange out my cleanser and toner with another product. So that’s the point I’m at currently. Paula’s Choice is super accommodating and wants people to have a great experience with their products. They have a great exchange policy! I have to fill out a return form saying what I’m sending back and the requesting (in the same form) the other products recommended to me.
Hands down, Paula’s Choice has me sold on their customer service alone. They want me to be using products that will work with my skin.
Paula’s Choice offers a 100% money-back guarantee within 60 days. Their products are not tested on animals, they don’t contain irritating dyes or fragrances. The other cool thing…anyone can receive a FREE personal skincare consultation by calling 1-800-831-4088.

Hey Taylor,
what was the final outcome of your full experience using Paula’s Choice. I got the exact same skincare kit and I recently broke out into allergy hives on my ears and neck, but not my face. The only new thing in my life was Paula’s Choice regimen so I have a feeling I’ll also need to discontinue using it. I’m trying to figure out what went wrong in my case. I find it interesting that the toner is where you noticed the issue.
Looking for any additional feedback on your experience. Thanks!
