This blog post was sponsored by KING’S HAWAIIAN® but the opinions are all my own.
Can we talk about game time grilling for just a moment?? There are times when I want to grill out and there are times when I want to grill in. This is one of those times when I wanted to grill in. The weather was kind of crappy outside and I didn’t want to fight against it. So I pulled out my cast iron grill pan and setup shop in my kitchen to whip up these Pork Bahn Mi sliders. These sliders have the perfect mix of spice and tang…from the chili sauce to the rice vinegar “pickled” veggies. Sandwich it together with a crispy sweet buttered King’s Hawaiian Roll and you’ve got a match made in food heaven. Yummmmm!! Check out the recipe below…
Ingredients
For the sauce:
2/3 cup mayo
1 Tablespoon King’s Hawaiian Big Island Lava Sauce
For the meatballs:
1 pound lean ground pork
1/4 cup chopped fresh basil
3 large garlic cloves, minced
3 green onions, finely chopped
1 tablespoon fish sauce
1 tablespoon sriracha
2 tsp crushed red pepper
1 tablespoon sugar
2 tsp cornstarch
1 tsp black pepper
1 tsp kosher salt
For the slaw:
2 cup grated carrots
2 cup grated daikon radish
1 cup sliced cucumbers
1/4 cup rice vinegar
1/4 cup sugar
1 tsp kosher salt
1 tablespoon sesame oil
For the bread:
butter
24 King’s Hawaiian Rolls (6 packages)
Extras:
Sliced jalapenos
Fresh cilantro
Directions
For the sauce:
Stir the ingredients to combine well. Store in fridge until ready to use.
For the slaw:
Combine all of the ingredients in a large bowl. Store in the fridge for at least an hour, stirring frequently.
For the meatballs:
Preheat oven to 300? F. In a large bowl, combine all of the ingredients together with your hands (make sure to wet them before you start). Form your meatballs (I used a tablespoon to get the size I wanted) and place on a plate or a sheet of parchment paper. Heat up a cast iron grill pan with some sesame oil (medium heat). Place the meatballs on the cast iron grill pan and cook on all sides (you’ll need to rotate them around a lot to keep from burning). Takes about 15 minutes. Repeat if you didn’t get them all on your pan.
Once all of the meatballs are browned on all sides, line a baking sheet with parchment paper and place meatballs on it. Bake for 15-20 minutes or until meatballs reach an internal temp of 150?. Rest for 3-5 minutes before assembling.
For the bread:
Butter the tops of your King’s Hawaiian Rolls and place on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Bake at 300?F for 15 minutes to crisp up.
Assemble by slicing open a King’s Hawaiian Roll, smearing some sauce on both sides, adding some cilantro, a meatball, some slaw, sliced jalapeno. Enjoy!
