These last couple of weeks of getting my feet wet back into my industry has caused my normal routine to fall completely upside down. I’ve had to take a step back and re-configure things so that I’m not skipping over time I need to do things for myself…ie staying active. Less sleep, feelings of exhaustion are just a few things I’m having to work through again. Plus making time to get outside for some sort of physical activity (this time of year, I can’t NOT work out outside).
Today, I’m partnering with Degree and Becky G to encourage people to MOVE IT!! And to give you some of my tips on how I stay active while living a busy life. All of us live busy lives. Whether you are working a 9-5 or are a stay at home mom chasing around littles, our lives are contant go-go-gos. It’s important that we make time to stay active. Not only for our sanity’s sake but for keeping our bodies in tip top shape. Here are my top tips for staying active:
ONE. Schedule it in.
I’m not even kidding about this one. I will not get a work out in unless I physically put it on my calendar. So I encourage you to block out time for yourself to workout. Even if it’s only 15-30 minute time slot. That is better than nothing. And I’ve got plenty of #NOEXCUSES™ Workouts for you that require little to no gym equipment to choose from. One round through any of them is better than no workout.
TWO. Work out Efficiently.
If you are super busy, there’s no reason to focus on one body part. Even if you were to have all the time in the world to workout, I would never encourage you to have specific days for specific muscle groups. Unless you’re training to be a bodybuilder. Then we would be having an entirely different discussion. Always go full body workouts. Always.
THREE. Do what you like.
The moment you tell yourself that you have to go running for your workout and you absolutely despise running, will be the moment that you set yourself up for failure. If you hate a specific kind of exercise, don’t do it. For me, it’s burpees. I loathe burpees. I will do them if asked, but rarely will I do them on my own. LOL Do the exercises you can tolerate.
FOUR. Track your workouts.
Keeping a journal will make your workouts more efficient and give you a benchmark to work towards session after session. It wouldn’t hurt to track your food, sleep, mood and water intake too.
FIVE. Choose something over nothing.
Have a project due? Have to get the kids to practice? Doing something active is better than nothing. If you are working late on a project or working through lunch, make it a point to go on a wellness walk or go up and down the stairs a couple of times straight. Taking your kids to sports practice? Walk around the field or gym. Walk up and down the bleachers a few times in a row. 15 minutes of activity is better than zero minutes. I keep my workout clothes, workout shoes, yoga mat, stretch bands, hair bands, ear buds and deodorant in my car at all times, so I don’t have an excuse to workout when I can squeeze it in. Remember…#EveryMoveCounts!
Degree has partnered with Singer/Dancer Becky G. She’s sharing (and teaching!) you how to do some of her dance moves plus talking about some of her reasons for staying in motion. Head over to Walmart.com to learn her moves and find out more about the Degree MotionSense Dry Active Sprays. I’ve been using Degree MotionSense Dry Active Spray for a few weeks now and really digging it. Sometime last year, I remember seeing an advertisement for the Men’s Degree MotionSense Dry Active Spray. Now it’s the only thing my husband uses. Works so much better than what he used to use. WINNING for me. LOL Anyways, I’m loving the women’s version. Quick spray and off I go. And it holds up during my high intensity workouts. WINNING again! It keeps me feeling fresh through those crazy, sweat-fests!!
How do you stay active in your busy life??

I am the most unmotivated person…EVER! I like the idea of scheduling it in and keeping stuff in the car so I don’t have an excuse. Thanks for the great tips!

Great post, Taylor. I’m especially a fan of the “choose something over nothing” method. Especially on days that I don’t feel like working out, or don’t have the time, I make a conscious effort to walk or jog around the block, the field, or even just up and down the steps. It may not be my regular workout, but it’s something, right? Thanks so much for joining us again on #shinebloghop this week!
