The winter time can be rough on our bodies. Colder weather. Strange climates…is it humid or not?? Different pollens. More viruses going around. Daylight is less. Just lots of things to put us into a winter funk! I know, for me, I really struggle with motivation to keep my body moving during the winter months because it’s so cold outside. And the daylight isn’t as long. All I want to do is hibernate with good food and a great book during this time of year. But that is the worst thing we can do for our bodies!! Check out my tips on how to stay healthy this winter!
TIP #1: Exercise.
It’s just as important to keep your body moving in the winter months as it is during the warmer months. Plus…just think of all of the holiday food we consume in the winter months. Hello?! Don’t let your exercise routine go by the wayside. Keep your body moving!!
TIP #2: Stay hydrated.
Drink lots of water! I’ve noticed a climate change and my thirst level is through the roof right now. Like I can’t drink enough water. The moment you feel thirsty, your body is already dehydrated. So keep up that water intake. (Cue me getting up to grab a glass of water.)
TIP #3: Rest.
Even though it’s important to exercise, it’s equally as important to get your rest. Your body is fighting off a lot more junk during this time of year. Let it fight it off with adequate amount of rest!!
TIP #4: Wash your hands.
No for real. Lots of germs on everything!!! Wash your hands frequently. Don’t touch your face if your hands have been somewhere recently. Hand sanitizer works in a pinch, but good ole fashioned soap and warm water is the ticket to getting the germs off!! (You’ll probably have to moisturize your hands more too, but that’s okay. In the name of staying healthy, keep your hands washed!)
TIP #5: Take your vitamins.
Less sunlight means our bodies may not be getting the required amount of Vitamin D. Eating mostly the rich foods and sweets means our bodies might not be getting the nutrients it needs to keep our bodies functioning in tip top shape. Make sure you are taking your daily vitamins!
TIP #6: Support your immune system with extra Vitamin C!
During the winter months, my husband and I take vitamin C to give our immune system some added support. An option we like is the Emergen-C Chewables®. They are easy to add into our normal morning vitamin routine and and taste great! Don’t worry about the boost. Your body LOVES getting nutrients, so stock up!! Emergen-C Chewables® are great for on-the-go people too! Simply take 2-Chewable tablets daily (14 years or older) to get the added immune support!
TIP #7: Eat healthy.
I know the sweets are in abundance. The rich foods are plenty. But DO NOT forgo your healthy eating habits completely. You will make it that much harder on yourself once the holidays are over. I’m not saying “don’t enjoy the holiday goodies.” I’m saying “don’t eat the whole pie or cake sitting in front of you.” Moderation, people. Seriously. It’s okay to enjoy but don’t imbibe yourself! LOL Stick to your regularly scheduled healthy eating regimen and it’ll be smooth sailing once the holidays have come and gone!
I hope these tips help you stay healthy this winter season!!! Check out all of the posts in the #NOEXCUSES™ Fitness Series here (workouts and more health tips for you to explore!)
