Skincare is and has been something that’s been important to me, for as long as I can remember. I have my mom to thank for instilling the importance of taking care of my skin. I have combination skin and sometimes it can be a bit challenging to take care of, especially when the seasons or weather changes. With an oily t-zone and dry cheekbones, it can be an uphill climb. But, I’ve had many years of practice! Today, I’m sharing my skincare secrets with you. And I like to think, besides my genetic makeup (thanks mom and dad!) that what I’ve been doing for all of these years, has really paid off!
So, let’s talk about my skin for a moment before I jump into my skincare secrets!
I have fair skin that is dotted with freckles and moles. I’m fairly certain this is from my heritage (a little bit of a lot of European countries). My skin doesn’t sunburn like you would think (for my dad and brother, on the other hand, the opposite happens!). Not saying that I don’t sunburn, but if I get a consistent amount of sun (which is good for you — everything in moderation + sunscreen, right??), I develop a gorgeous tan. But because of my fair skin + freckles/moles, I have to routinely visit a dermatologist for skin checks. And, unfortunately, I’m routinely having something removed. Thankfully, nothing has been cancerous but plenty that had opportunities. SCARY!! I have a dermatologist + plastic surgeon who take care of helping me stay on top of my skin. Most recently, I’ve had 8 surgically removed. I now look like I was in a legit cat fight. I’d rather it be that than the alternative though!! (Please please please get your skin checked every 6 months if you have a similar make up as me!)
Okay, now that you know what type of skin I have + my skin history, let’s chat about my skincare secrets.
SECRET ONE. I drink lots of water.
I keep a glass of water on my desk and on my nightstand. When I’m in the car, I always have water with me. I feel like I very rarely go without having access to water. It’s a constant reminder to just drink it. And your skin will thank you for it!
SECRET TWO. Sunscreen.
I don’t leave home without it. It’s part of my daily moisturizer habits + when I know I’m going to be in the sun for extended periods of time.
SECRET THREE. Exfoliate.
I exfoliate my skin and face regularly. Lately, I’ve been testing out a few new Olay products that I’m really digging. One for my body and one for my face. Olay Micropolishing Cleansing Infusion Hydrating Glow Facial Cleanser with Crushed Ginger & Citrus Extract + Olay Microscrubbing Cleansing Infusion Hydrating Glow Body Wash with Crushed Ginger. Both of these products smell DIVINE!! And they both contain the exfoliators that I need to help my skin stay in tip-top shape!! They are non-stripping cleansers that contain biorenewing hydrators that improve your skin’s condition as you wash, revealing your natural glow. And you know I’m all about my skin glowing because it’s healthy. Plus, both products come in a Deep Sea Kelp scent!
SECRET FOUR. Remove makeup.
This secret is probably the one I struggle with the most, but I know that it’s one secret that I can’t skip. When it becomes bedtime, the last thing I want to do is anything other than crawl into bed. When I’m tired, I’m bone-tired. BUT, I can’t skip my night-time skincare routine which involves taking my makeup off and applying nightly moisturizers/serums so that my skin care repair itself while I’m sleeping (aka my body is resting and so is my skin!).
SECRET FIVE. Moisturize.
I moisturize in the AM and in the PM. And if I have to wash my face in the middle of the day because I’ve been outside, I moisturize again. I try and layer my moisturizers and serums by their density. Starting with the “thinnest” moisturizer first and then ending with the “thickest” moisturizer (or serum) last.
SECRET SIX. Go without makeup.
I think most days, I don’t wear makeup. And if I need to run some errands and feel like I need something on my face, I’ll swipe on some mascara and lip gloss and call it good. If I don’t need to pester my face with makeup products, I don’t.
SECRET SEVEN. Stick to a routine.
Just like brushing and flossing are a must-have habit, so is taking care of your skin. I keep myself in a consistent skincare routine because I know that my skin is better off with a routine.
And there you have it. My skincare secrets. Secrets that I swear by and I think it’s working because I still get carded everywhere I go! 😉 Olay is challenging you with the #TiltTest. I bared my legs as part of this challenge to show off my skin’s glow and now it’s your turn!! Show off your results on social media using the products that I mentioned above (Olay’s Cleansing Infusions…shop them here!) and tag your pics with #TiltTest! Tilt your face, legs, shoulders, arms into the light, catching it to
show off the natural glow that Cleansing Infusions reveals!!
Great tips, Taylor! I agree with ALL of them. The Olay products are new to me, I will check them out!
Fun Fact: My grandparents were Eastern European and I too have inherited all the freckles and moles (my mom called them beauty marks). Time for me to schedule a dermatologist visit! Thanks for the reminders.

Thank you for sharing your tips with us! Thanks for sharing on To Grandma’s House We Go!
These are really great skincare tips and very helpful. I know now that the weather has started to warm up I have been looking for make up that has SPF or if I am not wearing make up conscious about putting sunscreen on and not spending too much time in the sun if I can help it. I also drink a lot of water which in my opinion has been a real blessing. Your OTS is so pretty btw! Love the little poms at the hem!
