The Secret Keeper by Kate Morton
Goodreads.com Synopsis:
During a summer party at the family farm in the English countryside, sixteen-year-old Laurel Nicolson has escaped to her childhood tree house and is happily dreaming of the future. She spies a stranger coming up the long road to the farm and watches as her mother speaks to him. Before the afternoon is over, Laurel will witness a shocking crime. A crime that challenges everything she knows about her family and especially her mother, Dorothy—her vivacious, loving, nearly perfect mother.
Now, fifty years later, Laurel is a successful and well-regarded actress living in London. The family is gathering at Greenacres farm for Dorothy’s ninetieth birthday. Realizing that this may be her last chance, Laurel searches for answers to the questions that still haunt her from that long-ago day, answers that can only be found in Dorothy’s past.
Dorothy’s story takes the reader from pre–WWII England through the blitz, to the ’60s and beyond. It is the secret history of three strangers from vastly different worlds—Dorothy, Vivien, and Jimmy—who meet by chance in wartime London and whose lives are forever entwined. The Secret Keeper explores longings and dreams and the unexpected consequences they sometimes bring. It is an unforgettable story of lovers and friends, deception and passion that is told—in Morton’s signature style—against a backdrop of events that changed the world.
My Thoughts: Well, I’m nearly finished…well definitely be finished by the time we chat on Twitter later today! 😉 Nothing like procrastinating to the last minute! 😉 It’s definitely and excellent book so far and I’m looking forward to figuring out the secrets!!
2. Do you find yourself reading more of a particular genre during the heat of summer?
Not really. I keep to my favorite genres: chick lit, murder mystery and historical fiction
3. Who are your favorite book villains (either to love or to hate?)
Ohhh I don’t think I have any favorite book villains to love or hate!
4. If you could choose one author’s writing powers to harness, who would you choose and why?
Mary Kay Andrews for sure. I recently had the opportunity to meet her at a book signing a few weeks ago. I’m going to have to paraphrase what she said (cause it’s really late and my brain isn’t functioning)…when you get to the end of her books, she wants you to have felt like you just finished a really awesome martini (or margarita or mojito or your favorite beverage). I love that thought process!
5. Do you read one book at a time, or read multiple books at once?
I used to read one book at a time. Lately, I’ve usually got a couple of books going at once. 😉
6. What are some of your favorite non-fiction books?
I’m going to be honest….NONE. I have not met a non-fiction book that I like. Unless you want to count cook books. 😉

We had very similar answers. I am not nearly close to finishing the book though. It took awhile for it to come in at the library.

I don’t read much nonfiction either, but I do like to mix it up. Maybe you’ll find a few to try from other Literary Junkies’ suggestions. Looking forward to the twitter party tonight!

I have a few nonfiction books you should read, really interesting and funny.

The Secret Keeper looks interesting. I might have to add that to my ever growing to read list.

I’ve read all of Jodi Picoults books and finished the Lone Wolf 2 months ago. It was so awesome – you will enjoy.
Brenda @DailyMayo says
Honestly, I think cook books do count as non-fiction books! I didn’t read many non-fiction books either until I became a parent. Now it’s all like, “how do I keep from messing these kids up!!! Let me read all the books!” Lol.

I used to read Jodi Picoult books all the time so this is the perfect excuse to read more of her books again
