Usually by this time of the year, a majority of people have already fallen off the proverbial New Year’s Resolutions wagon. Most likely, the goals were too ambitious and failure was destined from the beginning. However, it’s never too late to get back on the wagon. A healthy lifestyle should be a way of life. Not a once a year thing. Here are some tips on how to keep up with those original New Year’s Resolutions.
TIP #1
Journal. Write everything down, every day. The goods and bads. All of it. Record your exercise, food intake, moods, water intake, medicine/vitamin intake. Record it all. Keeping track of your daily life will help you stay on top of those goals you set in the New Year.
TIP #2
Shop the perimeter of your grocery store. Try and stay away from the processed stuff in the middle aisles. Load up on all of the good stuff: fruits, veggies, lean proteins.
TIP #3
Choose a smoothie over fast food at breakfast or lunch. Smoothies are a huge part of my life. I have one every single day. Once you go smoothies, you won’t go back. Or if you do go back, you’ll quickly realize what those smoothies were doing for you and you’ll jump back on the smoothie wagon. Smoothie King is offering a #ChangeAMeal challenge right now. It’s the perfect opportunity to try out the smoothie thing and dump those fast food decisions. (My favorite is the Greek Yogurt Strawberry Blueberry as a Meal Replacement.)
TIP #4
Get plenty of rest at night. Try and shoot for at least 6 hours of sleep each night, if not up to 8 hours. It’s important for our bodies to recuperate overnight. Allow it unwind and prep for the next day’s challenges.
TIP #5
Drink lots of water. For active adults, it’s recommended to drink up 1/2 of your bodyweight in fluid ounces. For example, if you weight 150 pounds, you need to be drinking 75 fluid ounces of water every day. Not a big fan of water? Add fruit to your water or veggies such as cucumbers. Flavor it up a bit so you can get your water intake each day.
I hope these tips help you keep up with your New Year’s Resolutions! Remember, take it one day at a time and know that you are human!! Give yourself some grace when you have one of those days. Pick yourself back up and restart tomorrow.
