Woo…y’all. If you like churros and you love popcorn, then you are going to LOVE this Boozy Churro Popcorn. The boozy part comes from a glaze made from Smirnoff’s Cinna-Sugar Twist Vodka. If you’ve never tried Smirnoff’s Cinna-Sugar Twist Vodka, you are missing out. This stuff is tasty!! I can’t wait to create more recipes and cocktails using this vodka flavor. But let’s get back to this popcorn recipe. It all starts with homemade popcorn. Popped on the stove the old-fashion way. This is the only way I’ll eat popcorn. The bagged stuff scares me. But that’s another story.
Okay, so start with freshly popped popcorn. Put the freshly popped popcorn in a paper sack and sprinkle in some salt. Close the bag and shake-shake-shake. Get the glaze working on the stove by combining the Smirnoff Cinna-Sugar Twist Vodka, sugar and butter. (Don’t want the alcohol? Substitute the alcohol with water and add in 1/4 tsp of cinnamon). Bring to a boil and cook until the liquid thickens up into a syrup.
Pour the popcorn into a large bowl and drizzle 1/3 of the glaze over the popcorn. Slowly fold it into the popcorn. Drizzle another 1/3 over the popcorn and gently fold it in. Then drizzle the remaining glaze over the popcorn and slowly fold it in. Return the popcorn back to the paper sack.
Add in the powdered sugar, sugar and cinnamon to the paper sack. Close the sack and shake-shake-shake. Now you’re ready to enjoy this tasty treat!!
Ingredients
- Grapeseed Oil
- 1/2 cup popcorn kernels
- salt
- Paper Bag
- Churro Glaze:
- 1/4 cup sugar
- 1/4 stick of butter
- 1/4 cup Smirnoff Cinna-Sugar Vodka
- Cinna-Sugar Dry Coating
- 1/2 cup powdered sugar
- 1/4 cup sugar
- 2 tsp. cinnamon
Instructions
- In a large pot, add in grapeseed oil until it evenly covers the bottom of the pot.
- Add in one popcorn kernel and turn the heat up to medium-high.
- Wait until the popcorn kernel pops and then pour in the remaining kernels.
- Cover the pot with a lid.
- Continuously shake the pot with the lid on to keep the popcorn from burning.
- Shake until the popping slows to about 1-2 seconds in between pops.
- Remove from heat and pour into a paper bag.
- Sprinkle in some salt and shake to combine.
- On the stovetop, in a small saucepan over medium heat, add in the Smirnoff, sugar and butter. Bring to a boil and boil until the glaze thickens. Stir frequently.
- Transfer the popcorn to a large bowl.
- Drizzle 1/3 of the glaze over the popcorn and fold it in gently. Drizzle another 1/3 of the glaze over the popcorn and fold it in gently. And then drizzle the remaining 1/3 of the popcorn and gently fold in.
- Transfer the popcorn back to the paper bag and pour in the dry coating.
- Shake, shake, shake to combine.
- Enjoy!
