Siding with Plato with Michelle ManningI received a copy of this book from the publisher. All opinions are 100% my own.
Goodreads.com Synopsis:
Brooke Aarons can’t get to college fast enough. Leaving behind her small town life, she intends to transform herself into a brilliant psychologist with no distractions along the way. But when she finds herself on a double date with the school’s star football player – and worse, enjoying it – Brooke has to wonder if she’s the one who needs her head examined. James Cartwright’s easy life, endless bucks, and long line of willing girls should make him a non-starter for Brooke, but as she learns, the psychology behind a bad crush is a whole lot messier of a subject. Maybe Plato was right. Maybe love is a serious mental disease. If so, Brooke doesn’t have long to find a cure before James’s attention proves to be a terminal condition.
My Review: 3 out of 5 stars. I really struggled with the writing on this one up until 2/3rds into the book and then I finally felt there was some cohesiveness. It might have to do with my stage of life but I don’t remember college quite like it’s depicted in this book. I just felt the rhythm was off with the writing. A bit punctuated. The book definitely became more enjoyable and less of a project to read towards the end. I wasn’t quite sold on the title after I finished the book, but not a bad start for Manning’s first book. I’d definitely try something else written by Manning.
I’ve been a reading machine lately. Trying desperately to catch up on my Goodreads.com Book Challenge. I said I’d read 45 books this year and according to my reading schedule I’m 6 books behind, but I’m determined to catch up. You’ll be seeing a few book reviews pop up over the weekend so I can share all of these books I’m reading with you. 🙂 Check out all of my book reviews here.
