Have you ever wanted to know what Organic Keywords are bringing people to your blog? It’s super simple and you will most likely laugh your pants off at some of the keywords that are bringing people to your blog. Let’s dive into this lesson about how to find your Google Analytics Keywords.
Step 1: Log into your Google Analytics Account
Step 2: On the Left-hand side of your Dashboard, find Acquisition and click on it.
Step 3: Now find Keywords and click on it.
Step 4: Find Organic and click on it. (Organic means someone typing in a search term or phrase or question into a search engine)
Step 5: Your Organic Keyword Search Traffic will now be showing. Scroll through it to see what keywords, phrases, etc people are using to get to your site. Now I know that I started this off by saying that you will probably laugh out loud at some of the words that people search and end up on your blog. But there is some extremely relevant info in this area. Let’s discuss further…
Organic keywords give you A LOT of google juice. Study your keywords monthly. These keywords are bringing amazing traffic to your blog without you having to do much of anything except put out the content that somehow made Google give that person that post, etc. If you see a theme reoccurring of certain keywords, maybe you should take advantage of it and start including some content to capture more of that traffic. This could lead in more visitors to your site.
Let’s take a peek at my keywords for a moment. (This list is from a 30 day time frame)
You’ll notice my top keyword is “(Not Provided)” This is data hidden by Google and relates to organic traffic coming from people that were logged into a google product like their gmail account. It’s a privacy thing. There are ways to figure out more of that info but I’m not going to go into that in this lesson. (If you’d like to “break that code” let me know and I’ll get the post worked up soon!)
Now let’s look at 2-10. Most of it is relating to my site’s name. But you’ll see some really specific stuff.
#6 and #9. Beach Theme(d) Baby Shower. I hosted a Beach Themed Baby Shower for my best friend and wrote a detailed post about it. This keyword phrase gets me a lot of traffic.
#8 red high hells to but…I have no idea about this one. Maybe I need to write a red high hells post?? My guess is that red high heels will probably perform better. 😉
#10 blue heels with bow…probably should write a blue high heels post to potentially capture this potential traffic.
This keyword info can really help you. And it can really give you a laugh…here are some of my funny ones right now:
++a plasticbottle
++big shoes to fill
++led in jars (maybe this was supposed to be LED in jars??)
++muddy heels (I’ve got nothing for this one)
++perfect hillgs hells in stockings
++pictures of girls in fluffy sweaters (this is kind of creepy!!)
++pink macaroni and cheese recipe (wow!)
++sexy jeans high heels babes
++sorel cate the great saappaat (what??)
++when i am with you i feel complete (again…creepy…lol)
++work hard (YES!!! I totally agree and am glad you landed on my blog!)
I just went through all 155 of my keywords from the last 30 days and people are landing on my site from keywords that I’m actually already fulfilling. So it looks like I’ll keep writing about those keywords.
What’s the funniest keyword you’ve seen someone use to land on your site?

Oh, by far the best one I’ve had was “shih tzu cut like Clydesdale.” I did a post on grooming my shih tzu and talked about how once my other shih tzu came out looking like a Clydesdale because she wouldn’t sit still. I actually called my husband to see if he was the one who searched that!

Oh and I would love a tutorial on how to unlock those blocked ones! The majority of my hits, like yours, are blocked.

Thank you so much for posting this tutorial, I find Google Analytic so frustrating so this was great to find out what my keywords are! It’s funny that my highest keyword search is cleaning schedules….and my blog isn’t even about organization or cleaning lol
Can you show us how to unlock the “not provided” key words?
