I LOVE Pinterest! And I love what Pinterest has done for my blog. It is THE top referrer to my blog. Holla to all my Pinterest peeps! ๐ Today’s #bloggingedumacation is learning about all things Pinterest. Well the things that will change what Pinterest can do for you as a blogger.
So let’s talk about how YOU can become a PINTEREST ROCKSTAR. It’s SUPER easy and let me tell you….the advice I’m about to impart on you is LEGENDARY and will turn you into a PINTEREST ROCKSTAR. Now, I haven’t always been a rockstar myself. I didn’t know these amazing Pinterest things until my best girl, Ange over at Hairspray and Highheels taught me her ways. So I cannot take credit for this Pinterest knowledge. This girl went from like 3k Pinterest followers to 7k Pinterest followers in a few short weeks. She’s now rocking an IMPRESSIVE 12K+ Pinterest followers (and still growing)!!
So if that didn’t sell you on becoming a Pinterest ROCKSTAR let me just say that I gain 200+ followers a week when I turn on my ROCKSTAR mode.
UPDATE: Want more proof of these tips working?? I wrote this post on January 30, 2014. I had 3,077 Pinterest followers around that time (I keep track of all my stats weekly). It’s June 9, 2014 and I am currently sitting at 12,281 Pinterest followers. I am gaining over 500 Pinterest followers every week now.
So here’s your #bloggingedumcation:
ONE | Organize your boards.
Go visit my Pinterest account (and follow me!). I’ll wait for you to go take a peek.
Okay…so now that you’ve seen my boards. Get your boards organized. Get rid of all the cutesy board names. Make it easy for fellow Pinterest peeps to follow your boards and know what they are actually following. Spell it out for them. Organize. Organize. Organize. Mine are organized by alphabet, but you don’t have to do that. Get your most pinned to boards at the top. Also make your boards INVITING and PRETTY (the board covers)!
TWO | Keep your Group boards at the bottom.
You want people following YOUR boards. Not group boards. Keep those boards at the very bottom.
THREE | Update your board covers Monthly.
People are drawn to new content. Every month, update your board covers to something else amazing.
FOUR | Pinning content.
Pinning your own content is important. But pinning other content is just as important. Choose about 5-10 bloggers that put out amazing content and pin their stuff. (Not just repin). Actually go to their sites and pin from their sites.
FIVE | Quality pins is Key.
Pin pin pin till your heart is content. But make sure your pinning is QUALITY pinning. And a good thing to think about is more than just whether or not you like a particular pin. Pin stuff that you may not like but is still a QUALITY pin because someone else might find it worthy.
SIX | Get more followers.
This one is KEY. And your ticket to becoming a ROCKSTAR. And the reason that I gain 200+ followers a week. And the reason Ange has become a super ROCKSTAR with her 12k+ followers.
Go to Popular pins (in the search feature at the top left of Pinterest…its the horizontal lines button).
Find a pin.
Click on it.
Scroll down till you see who pinned it.
Click on that person.
Check their follower numbers vs their following numbers.
If they are about equal, they will probably follow you back.
Follow that person.
Then click on their Pins (it’ll be the button right by how many boards they have).
Re-pin about 5-10 of their most recent pins.
If it’s a fellow blogger (check in their profile area), pin some of that blogger’s content too.
Repeat back to the Popular pins.
Follow 10-20 new people every time you have time to dedicate to being a Pinterest ROCKSTAR.
SEVEN | Write your posts with Pinterest in mind.
Always create an image that is PIN-worthy. And make sure you get it out on Pinterest. And get your blog tribe to repin it for you. Or join a Pinterest FB group that will help you get your pin out there.
NEW TIP!!! Pin Pin Pin!! You want to be pinning as much as you can possibly be pinning!! I average about 200 pins per day. Keep yourself in front of your followers!!
Now….go forth and become a PINTEREST ROCKSTAR!

“Pin stuff that you may not like but is still a QUALITY pin because someone else might find it worthy.”
There’s probably a limit here, you probably don’t to pin stuff you hate because you can tell it’s a pin that’s going to perform well. But yeah, I have a whole board of nail polish because I like looking at it, not because I’m actually going to start polishing my fingernails with elaborate manicures – and because I know other people enjoy looking at it too.
And yes, quality matters. Ugly photos of food (even if the recipe is probably nice), images with captions you can’t read against the busy background – not worth pinning!

Great tips! Should my Pinterest Boards pertain ONLY to what my blog is about or EVERYTHING?

I found your post here on Sverve and am glad I clicked over to read. Thanks so much for all the great information. I have been doing pretty good on Pinterest while just using it for my collecting great ideas for myself, but am thrilled to be able to use it for business. It’s also my number one referrer to my blog. I need to get a little better at growing numbers, but time just seems to be the issue these days. I am glad to have read this so hopefully I can work smarter and not harder in the few moments I have. Thanks again for sharing!!
