With all of the giveaways in blog land happening, sometimes my twitter feed can get bogged down…whether it be with new people that I followed after entering a giveaway that I really might not know yet, or giveaway tweets or whatever it might be. Sometimes I can’t find my twitter friends when they post…or I miss something important from them.
So, I decided to see if I could create my own custom list/twitter feed. And hot diggity, you can!
Want to create a list of people attending a specific conference? Want to create a list of your bloggy tribe/bloggy friends? Want to create a list of your sponsors for a specific month? Let me walk you through how you can create your own custom twitter lists.
Creating lists can only occur on your main twitter account and not on your mobile application…however, once the list is created, you can view your list on the mobile application.
>
ONE | Click the little gear icon on your twitter home page.
TWO | Click on the “Lists” button.
THREE | Click the “Create New List” Button
FOUR | Create a name for your Twitter List
FIVE | Add a description of what your Twitter List is about (not required)
SIX | Decide if you want your Twitter List Public or Private (ask yourself…do you want people to be able to search for your list and add themselves to it or not?)
SEVEN | Don’t forget to Save your Twitter List!!
Now you have your newly created Twitter List. Time to add some Twitter peeps to your new Twitter List.
Now you can type someones twitter name/first and last name/brand etc into that search area on your Twitter List in order to add them. However, I prefer to go back to my main Twitter Feed and add peeps that way. (But if you are creating a list of peeps that you aren’t currently following, the search feature would be your tool.)
So, let’s add some peeps to my newly created list. I will show you both ways (the search feature route and my feed route).
SEARCH FEATURE ROUTE:
In that search box shown in the previous picture, I typed in my friend, Ange’s Twitter handle. You can see that Twitter found her and now I want to add her to my new twitter list.
EIGHT | Click on the Gear Icon
NINE | Click on the “Add or remove from lists…” Button
Now you just click into the little box by the Twitter List you want that person to be “attached” to and ta-da!! Your first person in your Twitter List!!
MY FEED ROUTE:
Find someone in your feed that you want to add to your Twitter List and click on their name.
ONE | Click the Silhouette Person Button
TWO | Click the “Add or remove from lists…” Button. Then check the box you want to add that person to…and ta-da!! You did it!!
See, that wasn’t too hard! 🙂
{And as you can read, you can un-check the box if you want to remove someone from one of your Twitter Lists.}
Okay, so let’s see how this Twitter List works…
Let’s take my BLOG TRIBE list as an example. I currently follow over 3k people on twitter. That’s a lot of people! Anyways, let’s say when I log in, I’m not seeing what Ange and Jennifer are tweeting cause it’s bogged down in all of my main feed. So, for me to check out what they are tweeting, I’ll go to my lists (remember, click the gear icon up at the very top right, then click on lists) and select my BLOG TRIBE list.
My BLOG TRIBE List will give me what those particular people are tweeting. And if you keep your lists small, you’ll be able to keep up with those people.
Now as a side note, it won’t “clean-up” the tweets about giveaways within your lists, however instead of me reading 3k people talking about giveaways, I can see what else my bloggy friends are tweeting.
So, now it’s your turn! Get to creating your own Twitter Lists!!

Thank you so much! I didn’t even think to do this. I don’t use Twitter that much because I don’t like scrolling through all that mess! I enter a lot of giveaways, so I don’t even use twitter and I prefer Facebook to interact with my friends. It will be so nice to do this when I decide to start using Twitter more. The tutorial is great! It’s really easy to follow and looks really nice. Thanks again!
