Here’s the scenerio: Head to Crossfit, work your butt off, drink some water while working your butt off, finish your workout with your muscles quaking with exhaustion, lay down on the ground after the WOD is over and hope you can get back up. 😉 I drink a ton of water at Crossfit. A TON! I always bring 2 water bottles and drink them both. Staying hydrated is SUPER important when working out. Here are 6 Tips to Staying Hydrated While Exercising:
TIP #1: Drink Water! This one is easy to remember. Just make sure you have water with you when you are working out. Try 8-10 oz of water for every 10-20 minutes of working out to keep yourself hydrated.
TIP #2: If the workout is an intense one (marathon, intense workout like Crossfit), replenish mid-way through the workout with some sort of Electrolytes…think Gatorade, Powerade or Coconut Water. Electrolytes are what help regulate the amount of water in the body. When we sweat, we lose electrolytes. We need to replenish them. Most workouts do not require electrolyte replenishment. Just long training bouts or intense workouts.
TIP #3: Weigh yourself before and after your workouts. For every 1 lb lost during a workout, drink about 16 oz of water or fluid to help replenish what was lost.
TIP #4: Pay attention to your muscles during your workout (are they getting overly fatigued??). Lean tissue (aka your muscles are lean tissue) are made up of 75% water. When the body is lacking in water, your muscle performance (strength, endurance, etc) will be reduced. Take a break from your workout, grab some water and then try to get back at it.
TIP #5: Whenever you feel thirsty, grab some water. Keep your thirst in check and keep sipping on water. First signs of thirst means your body is heading down the dehydration highway.
TIP #6: Feeling dizzy during your workout? Time to tone it down and start to replenish your fluid intake. When your body is lacking in fluids, the body has to work harder to make things work. Grab your water bottle and start drinking!!

Yes! Staying hydrated is so important! I take a ton of water when I work out too.
These are great tips! #5 is my favorite – so important to remember to ABC (Always Be Chugging!).
I try SO SO hard to drink enough water throughout my day, but I’m always in need of more tips! Thanks for putting these together– I’ll definitely be putting them to good use!
I am literally the worst at drinking water, especially during workouts because I feel like it just sloshes around in my stomach! I know I NEED to though. I need to like, set myself some timers to remember to drink or something!
I hate doing #3, does it really help?
Great tips! staying hydrated while we work out is very important, most people forget that and didn’t drink water at all or they drink more water than needed.
